Continuing the 20-year legacy of the Dobell Prize for Drawing (1993–2012), the Foundation sponsors a biennial exhibition at the Art Gallery of NSW focusing on Australian drawing. Each Biennial is invitational and curated on a different theme.
The 2016 Biennial, titled ‘Close to Home', features the work of six contemporary Australian artists for whom drawing is central to their practice and whose work engages with narrative, memory and experience.
The curator Anne Ryan says of the exhibition: ‘There is a strong sense of empathy in the work of these artists…and this empathy is extended to the viewer, who is invited to recall their own experience and memories through the intimacy and directness of the drawings in the Gallery space.’
The exhibition at the Art Gallery of NSW runs from 30 July to 11 November 2016 with free admission.
